Having kids around your home can mean a lot of fun. Unfortunately, however, this isn’t the case all the time. When play time is up, you should be prepared to face tons of nasty stains and dirt that can take a lot of time and effort to completely get rid off.
To help solve these issues, here are some of the most effective cleaning hacks you can try for your home.
Buff away leather furniture
Having leather furniture is great if you have kids since you can easily wipe water spills off of them. However, this doesn’t mean that they’re safe against normal wear and tear. To protect your furniture, you can buff them with shoe polish.
Soak oil stains from your carpet
Your carpet is vulnerable to tons of damage, especially with kids running around. In case of oil spillage, you can soak up its stain with baking soda. Once you know the powder has already absorbed the oil, which can take around 10 to 15 minutes, you can start cleaning the carpet with your vacuum.
Remedy water rings
Water rings on your wooden furniture are unsightly. To take care of them, you can use your regular hair dryer. Put it on high and place it as close to the water stains as possible until the rings disappear.
Pick up spilled glitter
Play time is fun, but it can leave a lot of mess. If your kids accidentally spilled glitter, you can pick the pieces up with play dough. You can use your kids’ play dough or you can make your own by mixing water, flour and salt. You can also add some colors to it by adding a few drops of food coloring.
Remove odors effectively
Your kid’s shoes, your refrigerator and cabinets can develop funky smell if not cleaned properly and regularly. If you’ve been struggling to get the nasty smell off of these items, you can use your spare newspapers. Simply spritz some water to the newspapers, crumple and place them in the affected areas. You can also use this trick before storing pots and pans.
Refresh your microfiber couch
Children and pets can leave dirt and grime on your microfiber couch whenever they decide to play inside. Since microfiber can take in a lot of small particles, it can be quite difficult to lift them off of your couch.
As a solution, you can spray rubbing alcohol on its surface. Once you’ve covered the entire area, use a white sponge to clean your couch. After it has dried, use a scrubbing bristle to fluff up the fibers.
Get Play Dough Off of Your Carpet
One major rule when it comes to removing play dough from your carpet is never to touch it right away. Scrubbing it or even wiping it off can cause its color to smear and bleed into the fibers of your carpet.
Instead of trying to solve the problem on the spot, it will be better if you can wait for the play dough to fully dry up. This can take a few hours or even a full day. Once it’s dry, you can use your vacuum’s brush tool to break the play dough apart. Carefully, vacuum up the remaining particles.
Vanish Slime from Your Kid’s Clothes
Slime is gooey and sticky. It can leave a nasty mess on your kids’ clothes. Despite this, getting rid of slime stains on fabric isn’t that hard. The trick is to soak the clothes in distilled white vinegar until it softens. Once the residue comes off, you can launder the clothes as usual.
Remove Paint From Fabrics
If you’re going to let your kids play with paint, you need to make sure that it’s washable paint. In case your kids get a hold of a different kind of paint and smeared some of it on his clothes, you can rely on rubbing alcohol for its removal.
You can soak his clothes or any affected fabric in rubbing alcohol for a couple of minutes. It can take a longer time if the paint has already dried up. Take a spare toothbrush and rub the paint until it’s loose enough. To get rid of the residue, simply wash the clothes in the washer as you normally do.
Erase Fingerprints and Water Markers On Your Walls
Having kids at home can also mean having walls with tons of markings. From fingerprints to crayon markers, you can use a magic eraser to effectively get rid of these colorful stains. To get the best results, make sure that you slightly moisten the magic eraser before use.
